Our Home Vineyard sits at 750’ elevation in the rolling hills of Maryland’s Northern Piedmont. The Glenelg series soil is characterized by deep, well drained channery loam formed in residuum weathered from greenstone schist. The Albariño block is resting on a 5% slope with southern aspect and is entering its 8th leaf. The vines are clone 1, grafted to 101-14 rootstock, trained on VSP and planted at 1,361 vines per acre.
A timely harvest on September 10, 2017 captured bright character and bracing acidity from the vineyard. Wild yeast fermentation without any nutrients or fining agents. 225 cases hand bottled on September 28, 2016, sans tirage. Fermentation finished in this bottle, aged on lees, disgorged and re-capped on demand; no dosage, blending or filtration.
